My work explores notions of privacy, opacity, and orientation from the position of my Queer subjectivity. In my painting, Reykjavik 2, 2023, a quiet, Icelandic urban setting is interrupted by my choices regarding colour palette. Vibrant cadmium red and rich chromium green has been used boldly to enhance the exterior of this traditional house, attracting attention. The combination is cohesive but slightly un-realistic, set against a sinister dark-brown night sky. My green and white striped alter ego is present in the background, disrupting the composition. This evokes my experiences in heteronormative environments; standing out whilst trying to blend in.
