Figure with Hat is a wall hanging, hand tufted carpet made with wool and polypropylene
fibre. The image depicts a studio set portrait of an anonymous figure with hat and face
covering. The brief of the portrait was to share ones image safely, for an online or public
space. Themes within the work speak about identity, ownership and resistance in a fast
moving technological world. How does one low-fi censor themselves from being ingested by
the machine, when opting out is not an option?

“This work demonstrates excellent execution and handling of materials.
The conceptual idea of Lo-Fi in the medium chosen and the personal resistance to the fast-paced moving tech world is cleverly expressed.
The materials and composition encourage the viewer to also slow down when looking.
The subject matter reads as a surveillance image and raises questions of anonymity.”
