Vision 2020
An exhibition of textiles exploring the power of sight and the art of seeing}
curated by Brenda Gael Smith
11 June – 4 July (QUARTER GALLERY)
Vision 2020 is an eye-catching collection of forty, 20x20in (50x50cm) textile works curated by Brenda Gael Smith.
The call for entries attracted more than 100 entries from all around the world. The 40 selected works showcase the diversity and richness of the textile medium in both abstract and representational form. The artists are from Australia (27), New Zealand (4), USA (5) and Europe (4).
Brenda says ‘The theme has personal resonance as I live with various vision-impairment conditions (myopia, glaucoma and cataracts) and I was excited to see how artists tackled the challenge.’
From dreams to vistas; anatomical studies to optical illusions; the exhibition explores the theme of “vision” from different angles and highlights the importance of eye health and vision care, especially for a vibrant creative life.
Brenda embraces this focus. Ninety percent of blindness or vision impairment is preventable or treatable. Prioritising eye health brings profound creative, social and economic benefits and 2020 brings extra resonance to this theme.
