SLIGHTLY MORE ABSTRACT

17 January – 9 February

This is the first exhibition for 2020, and features artwork by members of the Red House Group Inc. ‘Slightly More Abstract’ was chosen as the title, to encourage artists to try a style that maybe outside of their normal practice.

Each year members are given several opportunities to show their work in Gallery M, reaching a wide audience from visitors to the Marion Cultural Centre. Approximately eighty artists will display work in this exhibition, including paintings in oil, watercolour & acrylic. There is photography, mixed media, textiles, printmaking, glass, and porcelain painting; also sculptures in various media, including timber and terracotta.

Such a diverse array of artwork can be challenging to display, but Gallery M, with its versatile layout, provides the exhibition team a fresh space to work with every time. This is achieved by re-positioning the large movable walls, a special feature of Gallery M that sets it apart from other similar spaces. These walls can also be used to create separate exhibition spaces, when two or more separate exhibitions are on display at the same time.

The Red House Group is a not for profit, artist managed organisation that was initiated in the early 1990’s. It celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, in 2019.

Over 1,600 artists have joined the group since its inception, with approximately 300 artists maintaining current membership in any given year. The group manages Gallery M on behalf of the City of Marion.

New members are always welcome. For information about becoming involved with the Red House Group, talk to Gallery M staff.
